Perspective, Northern Lights & Salt Watercolor Snowflakes
Perspective
Bird’s Eye View Snowmen
1st grade students studied different types of perspectives and created these collage snowmen. The snowmen are being viewed from above like how a flying bird would see.
Arctic Animals & Landscapes
Fourth grade students studied Canadian artist Ted Harrison. Harrison’s vibrant painting of the Yukon and arctic animals were our inspiration to create polar bear art. Students studied mark making and visual texture to draw their bears. Then, they used blending techniques to paint colorful backgrounds.
Fifth grade students tried an experimental drawing technique of using torn folders and chalk to replicate the Aurora Borealis. Next, they used paper to add an arctic collage landscape. We finished by learning how to seal chalk to paper. An important technique for future artworks.
Scientists have predicted that 2024 will be a year of increased solar activity and storms. Heightened solar activity often leads to more significant and frequent displays of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. This means you might see the Northern Lights in New England this year!
