Welcome back to the Cutler Art Room blog!

I hope everyone had an excellent summer!  All of the students had a lot to share about their summer trips, camps, pets, and families.  During our first Art class meeting, students learned about the Art Room, discussed our classroom routines and made a sketchbook.  I hope the sketchbooks become a nice creative tool for them to use this school year.  Upper Elementary also, gave me written or drawn feedback on what they wanted to study this year, what was not successful for them last year and some of their favorite art techniques.

This week, we started our exciting September projects.  Fifth grade is making ceramic cupcakes by learning an advance coil technique and using clay attachment.  Fourth grade is working on new watercolor techniques and will learn about clay attachment with a 3D clay bird.  Third grade is being introduced to printmaking with Gyotaku, fish printing, which will be finished with a painted background.  Second grade is studying drawing and painting with Dinosaur Art.  First grade is creating 2D Space Art and adding details with metallic sharpies.  Kindergarten is learning about line, color and coloring techniques through the artwork of Piet Mondrian.  What a fun start to the school year!
