Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

by Georges Seurat
1884

Kindergarten is studying Pointillism using "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" as an Art History example.  We were Art Detectives studying the painting with magnifying glasses to see how Seurat created colors and shapes using dots. Then, we practiced those dots using the techniques we learned from the book Joining the Dots: The Art of Seurat.

Last week, we finished our lesson on Pointillism by painting Spring Flowers. Buker and Cutler Kindergarten students used the techniques they learned from the book based on George Seurat's life. They each created several paintings and enjoyed using a new type of brush while overlapping dots to create new colors.
